Play as Metal Sonic

To play as Metal Sonic, collect the five Sonic Tokens on the Resort Island course and finish in the top three positions, then beat Mecha Sonic in the bonus race. This character can float in water for short periods of time.

Play as Metal Tails

To play as Metal Tails, collect the five Sonic Tokens on the Radical City course and finish in the top three positions, then beat Mecha Tails in the bonus race. This character can float in water for short periods of time.

Play as Egg Robo

To play as Egg Robo, collect the five Sonic Tokens on the Regal Ruin course and finish in the top three positions, then beat Egg Robo in the bonus race.

Play as Metal Knuckles

To play as Metal Knuckles, collect the five Sonic Tokens on the Reactive Factory course and finish in the top three positions, then beat Mecha Knuckles in the bonus race. This character can float in water for short periods of time.

Play as Dr. Robotnik

To play as Dr. Robotnik, finish in first place in the in the Radiant Emerald course.

Play as Super Sonic

To play as Super Sonic, collect all seven emeralds from the first four courses. Highlight Sonic on the character select screen and press Up or Down.

Play as same character

To allow both players to play as the same characer, have player one select any character, then highlight the same character and hold X, Y and Z on controller 2. Alternatively, highlight the same character, then hold X and press A on both controllers. This code will also work for bonus characters.

Play as hidden characters in two-player mode

To play as hidden characters in a two-player game, race one of the hidden characters but do not win. Enter two-player mode and hold Right on controller 2. Player two's icon should be in the hidden character zone. If you go outside the hidden character zone, you cannot get back in. If this occurs, repeat the code. While you are in the hidden character zone, press A to choose the hidden character.

Radiant Emerald course

To access the Radiant Emerald course, finish in first place in each of the first four courses.

All Emeralds

For all emeralds, hold Left and remain motionless until two laps are completed by another racer.

Alternative soundtrack

To hear an extended version of the title song, race the Radiant Emerald course as Super Sonic.

Control title screen logo

At the title screen, use the Directional Pad at the title screen to rotate the "R". Press B to make the "R" metallic in appearance. Press X or Y to shade the "R". Press A to return the "R" to its original appearance.

Change menu pictures

To change the picture displayed above the selection bar, press L or R when in a menu.

Full screen pause

To remove the text from the pause screen, pause the game and press X, Y and Z simultaneously.

Skip end credits

To skip the end credits, hold A, B and C and press Start.

Hint: Radiant Emerald: Flame power-up:

To get a flame power-up in the Radiant Emerald level, go to the location where you can play a quick pinball game as Amy or Super Sonic.

Hint: Radical City: Shortcut

For a shortcut in Radical City, use Knuckles at the start. At the dip, jump and float. Go down the stream until reaching a ledge and a road below. Go to the road and turn left to find the pinball area. Float above that at the drop, then jump up the gamble part and take the boost. It is possible to get a time of 32:00 seconds by doing this trick.

Hint: Reactive Factory: Shortcut

For a shortcut in the Reactive Factory level, select any character to play, then turn right when you are catapulted near the gap in the road. You should skip about five seconds.

Hint: Reactive Factory: Free rings

For free rings in Reactive Factory, turn around and go backward up the ramp at the start. Keep going until you reach an object that says "ring" along the right side of the path. Sit there and wait for a while and it will start emitting rings.

Hint: Regal Ruin: Shortcut

For a shortcut in Regal Ruin, select any character to play, then turn right when you see the hill and catapults. Turn left when you can and you should see an archway. Go through the archway and turn left at the fork. Then, go up the steep hill and go forward. You should reach the end soon. By doing this, it is possible to finish a lap in 25 seconds. Repeat this process.
